Rising Cards. Val Evans, Massachusetts, ca. 1939

A fine early mechanical version of the classic rising card effect, devised by Val Evans. One or more chosen cards rise visibly from the pack while it rests inside a wooden houlette placed on a flat tray. The ingenious mechanism is entirely concealed, operating without the need for threads or external connections, and is undetectable even under close examination. At the conclusion of the performance, the gimmick can be securely locked, allowing the tray, houlette, and deck to be handled without fear of discovery. Tray measures 12 x 12”. Good condition.
