Merv Taylor

Merv Taylor’s Por-Mor/Fil-Mor set is a rare and ingenious liquid measure effect. The slender Por-Mor vessel, despite its deceptively small profile, is able to completely fill the companion Fil-Mor glass—a hefty 22-ounce malt glass—seemingly defying logic.

Introduced in the late 1950s, this clever combination quickly became a favorite among working professionals for its practicality and surprise factor, and today stands as one of Taylor’s more seldom-seen creations.

A delightful story effect in which a proud dwarf is seen atop his castle, only to be threatened by a fierce 16” giant who vows to seize the fortress—and make a meal of its occupant. But when the dwarf emerges, he has suddenly grown to an imposing 23”, sending the once-bold giant scurrying into the castle in fear. The enchanted stronghold takes its revenge: the giant shrinks smaller than the dwarf ever was, completing a humorous and surprising tale.

A polished stainless steel funnel incorporating the ingenious “Isley” valve control, allowing the performer to secretly release or stop liquid at will. This subtle mechanism gave the magician precision handling and turned what appeared to be a simple utility vessel into a deceptive production apparatus. Hallmarked. Minor wear and two slight indentations; very good condition overall. Ca. 1950s.

A classic production device in which an abundance of silks appears from two metal rings, previously shown empty and capped with tissue. Constructed in brass and copper and hallmarked by the maker. Measures 10” in diameter. Minor age wear. With original box. From Ken Klosterman’s renowned Salon de Magie (inventory no. K1924). Very good condition. Ca. 1950s.

The liquid inside the glass disappears without the performer pouring it out. With liquid and functional— not commonly seen in this condition. Measures 3 ½ tall. Includes the original box (no label) and inventory number K1911 from Ken Klosterman’s Salon de Magie. A true magic treasure. Hallmarked.

The magician drops an egg into a large metal canister and secures the lid. Moments later, the canister—previously shown completely empty—is opened to reveal a large birdcage that fills the interior, complete with a live bird inside. Wear to the exterior and cage, but overall in good condition. Uncommon.

A versatile two-in-one marvel from master craftsman Merv Taylor. First, a copper pan—produced from a handkerchief—bursts into flames. The magician swiftly covers it with the lid, extinguishing the fire. Upon reopening, the flames have transformed into a live dove, a bouquet of flowers, or another magical production. Can also be used as a traditional dove pan.

A selected card mysteriously rises from the deck after the cards are placed into the clear acrylic houlette. Includes gimmicked deck. Measures 4 ½ x 2 ½ x 1”. In good condition. Ca. 1950s

A decorative stand holds a spool of thread and several loose razor blades arranged around its perimeter. The magician swallows the blades and the thread—only to regurgitate them moments later, now impossibly threaded together. Hallmarked. From Ken Klosterman’s Salon de Magie.
