Frequently Asked Questions
-
Every consigned item is carefully reviewed. Research may include maker, period, catalog references, comparable examples, provenance (when known), and condition.
Before anything is offered for sale, we align with you on pricing, commission, condition notes and disclosure.
No item is ever listed without your explicit approval.
-
Pricing is set collaboratively and informed by market history, collector demand, and the nature of the object.
While we may recommend pricing based on experience, all pricing decisions are agreed upon together. If market conditions change over time, we may suggest adjustments for discussion.
-
Commission rates vary depending on the material and scope of the consignment. Terms are discussed and agreed upon in advance.
Because material is presented directly to a specialized audience of magic collectors, consignors often achieve stronger realized prices than they might through broader marketplaces.
-
While an item is consigned with The Magic Collector, it is offered for sale exclusively through us. This ensures clear pricing, consistent presentation, and a straightforward experience for all parties.
Consignments are not subject to fixed terms and may be withdrawn at any time with reasonable notice.

eBay is a broad marketplace designed for speed of sale, while major auction houses often focus on large, highly selective sales.
The Magic Collector sits between those models, offering focused placement for historically significant, collectible magic where context, accuracy, and audience matter.
Many items belong in open marketplaces. Others benefit from careful presentation, individual consideration, and a knowledgeable collector audience. We’re always happy to talk through the pros and cons for your material.
