The Lady Vanishes

The Lady Vanishes. Abbott’s Magic, ca. 1950s. Originated by Jack Hughes.

A jumbo playing card (Queen of Diamonds) is displayed and, in a “backstage” presentation, the audience is invited to see the apparent method from behind: the card is dropped into a slot and shown hanging beneath the tray in tape loops. The performer then repeats the sequence from the front under normal conditions. At the climax, the drape is removed to reveal the tray empty—the card having completely vanished—confounding both the “exposed” method and the audience’s expectations. Includes original instructions. Light wear from use; overall very good condition.
