Louis F. Christianer Book Collection, Including Two Volumes Inscribed by Floyd G. Thayer. 1913–1920.

An exceptional collection of ten publications by Louis F. Christianer, including two volumes boldly inscribed by Floyd G. Thayer to the Hormann Magic Company. Christianer was Thayer’s partner in the Magic Shop of the West from 1912–1916, and many of his works were published by Thayer. Today, Christianer’s publications are scarce, and collections of this scope are seldom encountered.

Particularly noteworthy are Modern Magic Effects (1917) and Magical Notions, both inscribed by Thayer to the Hormann Magic Company. The latter is especially significant, as Christianer dedicated the work to Thayer, creating an uncommon association between author, publisher, and recipient. Effective Tricks bears the stamp of Martinka & Co. The collection includes:

  • Selected Tricks (1913), Thayer

  • More Effective Tricks (1916), A.M. Wilson

  • Effective Card Tricks (1916), Thayer

  • An Effective Coin Act (1917), Thayer

  • Modern Magic Effects (1917), inscribed by Floyd G. Thayer to the Hormann Magic Company

  • Original Deceptions (1919), Rybolt

  • More Effective Card Tricks (1919), Rybolt

  • New Magical Conceptions (1919), Thayer

  • Effective Tricks (1920), Thayer, with Martinka & Co. stamp

  • Magical Notions, inscribed by Floyd G. Thayer to the Hormann Magic Company and dedicated by Christianer to Thayer

Eight of the ten volumes have been preserved in protective stiff covers and remain in exceptional condition, with little evidence of handling or wear. Effective Card Tricks lacks its board covers but remains in excellent condition. An Effective Coin Act also lacks its board covers and is the only volume in fair to good condition. Minor wear and toning consistent with age.
