A finely made pair of oversized Chinese Sticks, finished in turquoise, red, and gold paint with decorative brass and beaded tassels. As one tassel is pulled downward, the tassel on the companion wand mysteriously rises, despite the two wands being shown separate from one another. A classic of stage magic, the effect has remained a favorite of performers for well over a century.
The distinctive construction, paint scheme, and original labeled storage box suggest a small-scale or custom-made production rather than a widely marketed model. Despite extensive inquiries among experienced collectors and dealers, the maker has not been identified, and comparable examples have yet to surface.
