Rabbit-Size Utility Cabinet. Charles Underwood, 1988

Expertly hand-crafted with solid brass hardware and meticulous attention to detail, this is no ordinary piece of utility apparatus. Constructed from nearly ¼” thick hardwood, this is the so-called “rabbit-size” cabinet, measuring 12½” wide × 10⅛” high × 11¼” deep.

Charles Underwood—a professional symphony violinist as well as a skilled woodworker—designed this cabinet with the comfort of the animal in mind. The interior features a removable rabbit insert that helps reduce stress on the animal during performance.

Original instructions included with four detailed pages of notes from Underwood, outlining the thoughtful construction and clever features that set this apart from more common examples

Built in 1988, this is a finely made and durable piece of professional-grade apparatus. May be shown empty just inches from the audience by raising the front door. Signed on Botton, very good condition.

Charles Underwood was an accomplish symphony violinist from Uniontown, PA.  He remained with the Baltimore symphony for over 45 years. Mr. Underwood passed unexpectedly while in France in September of 2023.
