Serial-numbered mechanical restraint device invented by Yngve Smith-Stange. Nickel-plated steel construction with T-handle control and opposing jaws. Stamped “THE IRON CLAW” with serial number; additionally marked with first patent number and “OTHER PAT. PEND.” Second version, incorporating the protective collar at the handle neck introduced following the second patent application in May 1935 (patent approved in January 1937). Surface wear and light oxidation consistent with age; mechanically sound.
